Broken Bells: “The High Road”

James Mercer+Danger Mouse

For those not familiar with Danger Mouse, he is one half of funk-pop outfit Gnarls Barkley with rapper Cee-Lo.  DM gained notoriety for mashing up Jay-Z’s The Black Album with The Beatles The White Album to create a masterpiece called The Grey Album that earned him the ire of the RIAA. But it also launched his career. Besides Gnarls, Danger Mouse — or Brian Burton as his parents might call him — has worked with The Black Keys, Beck, Sparklehorse and others as he’s become the it producer. According to Pitchfork, this new collaboration between DM and Shins’ frontman James Mercer is not a passing fancy. You can preview the first single, “The High Road,” at Broken Bells’ official site, and if you preorder the self-titled album, you get a free download of the song. After hearing this track, I must say, I’m pretty excited for this record. The album is due out March 9 on Colombia Records. Check it out!

Back to the listing a little later on…
