Owen Pallett: “Tryst With Mephistopheles”

Owen Pallett: "No paragon am I. I can't even keep my shoes tied." - Tryst With Mephistopheles

If you’re not familiar with Mephistopeles, he’s the demon in the legend of Faust. If you’re not familiar with Owen Pallett, he’s essentially the one man behind the group Final Fantasy. Much of his new album, Heartland, sounds like it could be a musical score for a dramatic movie. In short, the music Pallett produces is, by and large, pretty. This 6-minute journey is no exception. I find the strings and piano plinks and guitar and synths — all employed to build and subside in wonderfully composed orchestral-type flourishes — to be pleasing to the ear. It kind of sounds like something Sufjan Stevens could do if he had a little flavor for electronic music. I hope you enjoy and appreciate this song as I did.
