Alva Leigh: “The Road”

Alva Leigh. Picture from last.fm

Come with me and enjoy a young woman with beautiful southern soul, and a wonderful voice as well. Alva Leigh was born and raised in Gulfport, Mississippi, and she knows how to let a note linger like a warm summer breeze. On her debut self-titled album, Leigh sings of chasing after love and searching for an identity at the same time. In “The Road,” she croons “I’ll teach the whole world to sing.

If only, Alva. The world would be a far lovelier place.

The song is about running — or driving — away from those seemingly inescapable problems life seems to throw at us.

The Road” By Alva Leigh (From Alva Leigh, out now on Dweeb Records)

Be amazed by this live performance of “Hurricane.”
