Margot & The Nuclear So And So’s: Bubbleprick

Anyone who’s known me at any point since 2006 has probably heard me rave about Margot & The Nuclear So And So’s. When I was first introduced to their Dust of Retreat EP in the spring of 06, I immediately fell in love with their brand of “scarf rock,” as they jokingly (or perhaps not) described it at one point. They were an 8-piece band with a violin, a trumpet, a Rhodes player and even an ancillary percussionist. How could I not love them.

Fast forward to 2010, when Margot & The Nukes have undergone some changes to their lineup but remain fueled by lead singer Richard Edwards’ ability to communicate intense emotion with powerful melodies, whether that be with just Edwards and his acoustic guitar or with the full complement of his wonderful bandmates. Those bandmates are fewer these days — go here for more info — but the show must go on. And it does, with great music still to come.

I had the opportunity to hear a handful of new songs at MNSS’s show in Columbus on March 4, and it sounds like the new album, said to be called Buzzard and supposedly aimed at a May/June release date, will be a good — albeit different — record.

I purchased the band’s new 7-inch, Bubbleprick/Birds at the Columbus show for just 5 bucks, which you can do But I had to share these songs with our loyal TWJ readers. I’ve also put a kickass song from Richard Edwards’ first band, Panic Attacks!, here for your listening pleasure. Enjoy!
