Imagine my delight when the lovely male-female harmonies of Wild Moccasins — voiced by couple Zahira Gutierrez and Cody Swann — came through my speakers for the first time. The band was a showcase artist at 2009’s South by Southwest, which I vow to one day attend in Austin, TX.
This Houston quintet’s tune “Skin Collision Past,” is a truly energetic affair, replete with jangly guitars and wonderfully expressive vocals from Gutierrez and Swann. It’s just an awful lot of fun to listen to. I feel like this would fit well for a summer mixtape, perhaps blaring through a car stereo with the windows down, the wind whipping through your hair as you drive through the neighborhood scaring the elderly. Maybe people would nod their heads along — I don’t see how you couldn’t enjoy this song, as I did quite a bit.
Is “Skin Collision Past” a reference to a regrettable one-night stand? Or a blissful but brief tryst with a brilliant lover? Or maybe it’s neither. Listen to find out. Listen to enjoy these sweet rock sounds. Just listen!

Honestly, if you don’t love the band after seeing this “Austin Sessions” performance — complete with the band in awesome costumes — I’m not sure what to tell you.
