M.I.A.: Born Free

Matt owns this same sweater. In blue AND green.

Sri Lankan firecracker M.I.A. (also known as Mathangi “Maya” Arulpragasam) has made a name for herself by blending a multitude of different styles into catchy, danceable and innovative rap songs. This newest cut from her upcoming album — set for release on June 29, which she announced on a blimp during Jay-Z’s set at Coachella — has a loud, repetitive, bowl-you-over guitar sample and enough reverb to make your ears ring for days. Really, the whole song is repetitive, but it is at the very least an interesting listen into what the 34-year old rapper’s new album might sound like. Check it out, along with a couple more of our favorite M.I.A. songs!
