Tift Merritt: Mixtape

It was pointless to resist. As soon as I pictured Tift Merritt sitting alone in her room, dubbing a special mixtape onto her Maxwell cassette, I was hooked on this wonderful new song from Merritt’s latest solo effort, entitled See You On The Moon. From what I read about Merritt, Ryan Adams is a big fan and even helped her get signed to a deal. I’d say that’s a good sign for most. Seriously, who hasn’t made someone a mixtape to tell them exactly how their heart feels? Be it the dull ache of an ended relationship, the clutch in the chest of an unrequited love or the joy of a brand new crush, we’ve all felt like a song, or group of songs, expressed to near perfection what we were feeling at that exact moment.

And Merritt captures that itch, that need to share music with someone because it will say something they cannot put into words themselves

Just as Adams moved back and forth from country to rock to plenty of things in between, Merritt has ventured away from her twangy origins.
