Sallie Ford and The Sound Outside: Danger

Maybe I’ve lost a step. Maybe Sallie Ford is just that confusing. More than likely, she’s just that good.

But I’m not exactly sure how to describe Ms. Ford’s– and her wonderful accompanying band’s — sound. Her voice has elements of old soul and jazz singers, and so it makes sense that Billie Holiday and Ella Fitzgerald are listed as influences. But that doesn’t do it. There’s definitely some blues tossed in there, but I definitely wouldn’t call this blues music. So I’m left to give you a sample and implore you to listen, because it’s more than worth the ear-time you’ll be investing. A full-length debut is forthcoming for this Portland foursome, but for now it’s just their five-song EP available to pique our interests. LISTEN!
