I waffle back and forth on remixes. I’m never sure if I appreciate the reworking of a song I already love, or if it should’ve just been left alone. Florence & The Machine were one of my favorite acts to burst onto the scene in 2009, and it’s been astonishing to me that the mainstream music community has begun embracing Florence Welch and Co. the way they have (see her performance on an otherwise atrocious MTV Video Awards ceremony, on Ellen and now I keep seeing ads for Glee on Fox where they use “The Dog Days Are Over.” Weird. Good for her, but weird.)
I randomly stumbled upon this remix of F&TM’s track “You’ve Got The Love” by Widowmaker and was kind of mesmerized. I do not know a whole lot about Widowmaker, other than they fit into the dubstep genre (TWJ’s second mention of dubstep in one day, this has got to be a record). But this re-imagining, with fabulous vocals by Welch still front-and-center, is a pretty kickass track. Give it a listen.
Props to Killian Dub for being the one to help us discover this track.
