Once again the tricky sods of the bouncy tune but lonesome lyric are at it, sucking you in with their cheek and curls. Noah and the Whale have a third album on the horizon, and they have named it Last Night on Earth (Out 3/08/11). Perhaps I’m the only one who’s anxious to see these lads CHEER UP, shuck their loneliness and press on into brighter lights, but I can’t help but feel as if they would be thrice as fantastic if they could only catch their happy thoughts and their Tinkerbells. Their second single: (pinky on the period) “L.I.F.E.G.O.E.S.O.N.” sounds old. Like in the let’s just get this over with kind of way. Then they spell things out and it gets a tad catchy. Not my favorite. And there isn’t a single smile in the wig-wham companion video for the track. Has anyone ever smiled in a NATW vid? Hmmmmmm. But their first (and free to download below) single “Wild Thing” amps up the hips and hops with some meandering warbles in the hills and SOME endearing words about a lady of the woods. The tempo speeds and Charlie Fink’s voice changes pitch. Better boys…better.
