When you have your first ever performance at the Vatican, at THE VATICAN…DURING mass, you’re destined for great things (see the amazing video below). The Horrors’ Faris Badwan and Canadian (opera) soprano Rachel Zeffira have a band. It is called Cat’s Eyes. Loads of nostalgic hush and backing lovelies adorn the drippings of their music. It’s great tunes. I had to force myself not to take any of my feelings about The Horrors into their venture with me. Not that they were bad feelings, only slightly dubious. And Faris Rotter says Cat’s Eyes isn’t a side-project, this a veritable band in and of itself, with an EP (Broken Glass 2/28) and a proper full-length in the pipeline (ST 3/11). And that makes me happy. In truth, Cat’s Eyes is totally different from The Horrors, and should never be compared to the other ever again. You can download their first single; “Not A Friend” below or at their site for the price of an email. Being on their email list wouldn’t be a bad thing. Also, listen to a really well-done cover of the Grinderman’s “When My Baby Comes,” which will be available as a B-side of Grinderman’s “Palaces of Montezuma” March 14th. This all points to a promising act coming out in style. Keep your eyes on Cat’s Eyes. TWJ will help.
