Nearly everyone who’s heard Phantogram agrees that they deserve more praise than they get. Their 2010 debut Eyelid Movies was fantastic and it cracked many-a-top-o-the-year-lists; full of bouncy bobby bits of thump and give n’ go. The breaks and beats are the catchiest I’ve heard a long while. And they seem to be ramping things up lately, with their television premiere on Jimmy Fallon last week, a gig supporting Dr. Dog and a brand new video for their second single. Yes skimpy posh outfits on Sarah D. Barthel and Joshua M. Carter and yes stark lighting and beautiful contrast. But mostly the song; “When I’m Small.” And no, I didn’t spend the whole time staring at what you think. No not 3:21 at all. Nope…nope. Instead, I was only admiring how bodaciously full and lustrous the beard of Mr. Carter’s is. There is such a thing as beard make-up, there’s got to be. Grab the song, and watch the video, both acoustic and the shiny new one, for “When I’m Small,” below. Let Phantogram be a small balm for your White Stripes wound.
