Cold War Kids: “Mine Is Yours” REMIXED 3X

I’m not sure how a song gets remixed as much as the title track from Cold War Kids’ newest LP Mine Is Yours. All I know is that first Passion Pit, then Yeasayer, and now hip-hop  remixers Blended Babies have all given the song’s reinterpretation a go. Whether they spoke with the band about any of it is something I don’t care to know.

Each one of these three puts a pretty unique spin on “Mine Is Yours”. It’s easy to tell Yeasayer’s version, with the synths and funky 80’s-style beat. Passion Pit’s remix puts a chugging synth-line behind the vocals and combines that with a lot of cymbal crashing and atmospherics. They’re both interesting listening, perhaps more than the original.

And then there’s the Blended Babies remix, which features some wonderful flow from Sir Michael Rocks, aka Mikey Rocks, aka one half of The Cool Kids, aka the headliner of the first TWJ-associated show in Cleveland on Feb. 9. SMR raps mostly about protecting both oneself and one’s friends. It’s playful, clever and somewhat insightful, in Mikey’s typical style. And Blended Babies gives it a nice beat and keeps bits and pieces of the original’s vocals.

Give all three a try here to check out the different styles.
