Playdough: “Modest Mouseketeer”

Lupe Fiasco wasn’t the only rapper to draw inspiration from Modest Mouse in 2010. In fact, rhymesmith and Dallas native Playdough put together a whole damn album inspired by artists from other genres, titled Writer Dye. Nirvana, White Stripes, Brendan Benson, and plenty more. And you know what? It’s pretty damn entertaining. This dude has some interesting talents.

On “Modest Mouseketeer”, Playdough takes the memorable line from Modest Mouse’s song “Satin In A Coffin” — Are you dead or are you sleepin? Man I sure hope you are dead — and makes it a hook in this track. This is a little change of pace for TWJ, as we don’t feature hip-hop artists too often. But this project intrigued me, and Playdough has a solid flow.
