I still waggle my fingers when I pass through sliding doors. I use my Jedi powers to open them. Really, that’s why they do. My powers. Only reason. There are others like me, who don’t let their childhood beliefs fade into the ridiculous FACTory called life. One Seattle band, Beat Connection is among them. There’s a weekday night romp-around on a cul-de-sac in everyone of their songs. I’d imagine Jordan Koplowitz (music), Reed Juenger (production), vocalist Tom Eddy (vocals), Mark Hunter (bass) and Jarred Katz (drums) would be right there with me, taping shish kabob sticks to their wrists and calling each other ‘bub. Their music is a mixture of The Drums and Daft Punk, with Vampire Weekend at the mic, singing about nonsense topics that only make sense when you’re giddy and jumping. They released their single, “Silver Screen” today, complete with the unreleased “Space Vacation” as a B-side and two remixes to boot. The single itself is a tour de force of Flute Funk-Pop that’ll circle your brain till next Wednesday. It’s good.
But the real treat will be their 8 song Surf Noir EP that lands April 12th, 2011. With clandestine statements like “Listen to this when you’re stoned” already sprawled across YouTube videos, you just know it’s gonna be good. Beat Connection will be making their big splash at SXSW this March, wowing the crowds with dance brews wrangled right before their eyes. For now though, “Silver Screen” says “tag, your it”. Waggle your fingers and chase after it.
