Raleigh: “Balloon Boy”

My Photos by I listened to this song from Calgary-based band Raleigh about 10 times on repeat last night. At around 50 seconds in is where I was mostly sold on the band’s brand of swirling, string-infused prog-folk. That’s when the gorgeous cello piece fits nicely into the puzzle, and from there the nice male-female vocals chime in and the vibe is completely set.

Raleigh is Brock Geiger, Clea Anais and Matt Doherty. “Balloon Boy” is a track from the band’s upcoming self-released album New Times In Black And White, which drops May 28. All three members found their way to Raleigh via other bands, namely Woodpigeon, the Dudes and Axis of Conversation. Cello, guitar and drums, melded into a sound solid enough to make them stand out from the pack. Give “Balloon Boy” a spin.
