The Graduate: “Choke (Demo Version)”

The members of The Graduate have been together for about six years. So it’s no surprise that the Springfield, Illinois band’s sound doesn’t have too many rough edges. The guitar harmonies are tight, the rhythm section pounds away with precision and the vocals are delivered with clarity and confidence.

The song we present here is from Sea Legs, an EP the band has released for free on its bandcamp page. The song has its heart on its sleeve, and it rocks out from start to finish. There’s nothing complicated about the formula here: guitar, drums and bass. But I know if I heard “Choke” in concert, I’d be jumping around and smiling. It’s a soaring, powerful rock tune, and it’d fit nicely on alternative radio without a doubt.

In addition to Sea Legs, The Graduate’s latest full-length Only Every Time is out now on Razor & Tie Records.
