Ms. Margo May: a bit famous for making it to the Hollywood stage of American Idol, is but more famous in the more important circles for making beautifully earnest music with none of the fanfare. In all of the perfect worlds, it wouldn’t require a cover of a more famous song to garner our attention, but if this is an avenue to her music, you should take it full-throttle. Every one of her songs shines like wallflower unfurled. That shy object in the corner of the room is the girl of your dreams. May’s cover of Broken Social Scene’s “Anthems For A Seventeen-Year-Old Girl” gathers all her personalities and her guitar in a room and forms a wonderfully accurate but wildly distinctive addition to the song. Sing along.
These are some of my favorites.
Margo May is currently working on her 2nd album, and she is yet unsigned to any record label. Just for that, you should buy her 1st album; 2010’s Summerof.
(Summerof is available now at Margo May’s store)
