Good luck with this one: the new video for Justin Vernon’s “Calgary” is an expressionist piece wrapped in an enigma. The jist and the pace of the video matches Bon Iver’s single well, but the imagery simply depicts a girl waking up on Degobah, meeting a fellow nerf-herder and then summoning a man-bear Ewok. This probably all wrong of course, since it was Vernon himself who co-wrote the scenes with Andre Durand and Dan Huiting. So it makes sense to at least three people, somewhere. It’s best just to lean back and enjoy the artwork that frames the single from the forthcoming self-titled Bon Iver. It comes out June 21st, all ripe and ready for the cool summer evenings.
A hard-to-find remix by Cillo too
(Bon Iver is available 6/21/11 from Jagjaguwar Records)
