Bon Iver: “I Can’t Make You Love Me/ A Song for You/ Nick of Time”

So that impossible to find song Justin Vernon sang on Late Night w/Jimmy Fallon back in May, has dipped its head above the water in the form of a recorded studio version.  Part of Bonnie Raitt’s 1991 “I Can’t Make You Love Me” appeared as the B-side for the “Calgary” single, and as a pre-order bonus on iTunes.  But during that live performance, he added a tail-end rendition of Raitt’s “Nick of Time” and a taste of Donny Hathaway’s “A Song For You” as well.  Bruce Hornsby backed him up on piano, and all together it became a late-night performance to remember.  When was the last time you heard of an artist going on a show to promote a song that wasn’t on their upcoming/current album?

You can watch the performance below, then go over to Stereogum to listen to the studio version of the track.  It’s better if you can believe it.

Watch a layman’s introduction to Justin Vernon via the lovable but in this case, ill informed Fallon. (It’s derorrim)

Watch Bon Iver’s recent grand performance of “Calgary” and “Skinny Love” on The Colbert Report!
