Kurt Vile has two things going for him: gorgeous locks and clout as a singer/songwriter that has referenced him to the likes of Tom Petty. His new album Smoke Ring for my Halo dropped earlier this year and like many other songwriters, guitar is the biggest accompaniment to Vile’s almost-twangy voice.
Described as heartland rock, one senses modern Americana in the way he describes love, god and society as a whole. “In My Baby’s Arms” is a modern day love where he simply describes how nothing can soothe quite as well as a lover’s touch. There are no superfluous words in Vile’s singing.
Expect a crisp acoustic guitar strumming and picking its way through Vile’s set. Kurt Vile and the Violators will be on stage come Sunday.
