Man, I am way too predictable. As soon as the piano began on Los Angeles band The Hunting Accident’s “Hot Drum,” I thought to myself “I’m going to like this song.” And, not shockingly, I thoroughly enjoyed the tune. The Hunting Accident is composed of former members of some successful indie bands — Arlo, Piebald and Burning Brides, to be exact — and after all those groups disbanded, the members of this fivesome toured with all kinds of other successful bands during the past few years.
The result is a handful of songs like “Hot Drum”: emotive, melodic post-punk that uses piano just as well as it does keys, synth or guitar. The months and months of playing with friends’ bands gave The Hunting Accident its musical chops. And they use them quite well on their first release, a self-titled 7-inch set to drop August 16 on The New Black. Grab “Hot Drum” as well as “Important” below!
