The Black Keys: “Lonely Boy”

There’s a very good reason why Akron dudes The Black Keys and their album Brothers were on TWJ’s Top 20 Albums of 2010 list. It’s because they rock people’s faces off. Perhaps I wasn’t paying close enough attention, but news of Dan Auerbach and Patrick Carney’s latest effort El Camino — set to start melting any frosty midwest malaise on December 6 — hit me like a ton of bricks. The fact that these guys will give us another album’s worth of material to check out before the year is done makes the approaching Winter seem far less frigid.

To whet our collective appetites, Auerbach and Carney released the first single from El Camino, “Lonely Boy.” The beginning has an almost rockabilly feel before the song settles firmly into rock-it-out territory. They are singin’ the blues once again, about another girl that teases and tries your patience, yet you can’t seem to let her go. Makes a lonely boy indeed. Commiserate below.

Also, check out the video. It makes me smile.
